Magiciens modernes et Grimoires électroniques

Le grimoire a toujours été l’un des outils primordiaux du magicien ; puisqu’il lui permet à la fois de prendre du recul en analysant son évolution que de se remémorer le détail de ses expériences passées, sans oublier qu’il induit à une certaine rigueur par le suivi régulier des pratiques.

Or, les mœurs et le rythme de vie contemporains rendent de plus en plus difficile l’utilisation d’un « vrai » grimoire. Vous imaginez-vous avec un énorme livre dans votre sac à main ou dans votre poche ? Vous imaginez vous sortir ce bouquin en public pour y chercher une information importante ?

Ainsi, pour que le grimoire ne se réduise pas à une question de style ou de convictions, mais qu’il remplisse complètement sa fonction, le magicien a tout intérêt à suivre l’évolution des technologies.

Certains ont opté pour le grimoire sur Internet, or si ce support est complet, pratique (pour ceux qui ne galèrent pas avec le web) et expressif, l’accessibilité est discutable et il ne saurait être disponible ‘à tout moment’ ; essayez donc de le consulter pendant un cours et vous verrez combien cela est difficile.

MODERNITE SUBCULTURELLE ET ESOTERISME:

La « musique industrielle » est apparue dans la seconde moitié des années soixante-dix. Elle est issue à la fois des expérimentations musicales de cette époque et de la scène punk qui lui a succédé. De ces deux filiations, elle a surtout retenu la radicalité, musicale et discursive, en particulier politique. Grosso modo, la musique industrielle est une appellation générique regroupant une multitude de formations musicales aux styles parfois très différents les uns des autres : cela va de la musique électronique rythmique proche de la « techno » (elle est d’ailleurs l’un de ses ancêtres) au « néo-folk » influencé par la culture et les mythes européens, en passant par les musiques expérimentale, dadaïste, futuriste, concrète, très proche de la musique contemporaine établie. Cependant, des points communs peuvent être dégagés de cette mosaïque de genres : tous les sous-registres tendent vers l’atonalité et/ou l’expérimentation. La musique industrielle est souvent instrumentale, le chant ne se prêtant pas à ce genre musical mais il existe aussi des chansons de « forme traditionnelle ». Outre une radicalité héritée des milieux punks, l’une des caractéristiques de ce milieu est une profonde imprégnation des thèmes et des thèses occultistes.

Nous pouvons distinguer quatre grandes tendances ésotériques : une première comprenant toutes les formes de mouvements magiques contemporains ; une seconde comprenant Julius Evola et les traditionalistes ; une troisième néo-païenne sous ses différentes variantes odinisme, chamanisme, néo-sorcellerie, etc. ; et enfin une dernière sataniste, au sens « laveyen » du terme. Toutefois, nous ne nous intéressons ici qu’à la première catégorie.

Les thèmes crowleyens sont un héritage direct de la décennie précédente. En effet, cette scène est largement tributaire de la génération précédente qui fut la première à célébrer ouvertement Crowley (cf. le cinéaste expérimental américain Kenneth Anger, David Bowie et Led Zeppelin, les Beatles - il figure sur le disque Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band ; première ligne en haut à gauche deuxième visage) et qui le fit connaître auprès d’un nouveau public. Un nombre important des groupes étudiés se réfèrent aussi fréquemment à un autre « magicien », disciple de Crowley, l’Anglais Austin Osman Spare, le fondateur du culte de Zos Kia. Ils se réfèrent aussi enfin à la Magie du Chaos dont la principale structure, l’Illuminated Order of Thanateros ou IOT, a été fondée par un disciple de Spare, Peter Caroll, un personnage évoluant au sein de la subculture punk se réclamant de Dada, de Deleuze, de Derrida, du taoïsme, etc. En fait, la Magie du Chaos mélange tout dans un relativisme total.

French-British anthropologist, Maurice Bloch, of the London School of Economics believes that humans alone practice religion because they’re the only creatures to have evolved imagination. The development of imagination occurred at the time of the Upper Palaeolithic ‘revolution’ 40-50,000 years ago. Bloch challenges the popular notion that religion evolved and spread because it promoted social bonding, as has been argued by some anthropologists (Image is prehistoric rock painting from south of Spain). According to Bloch’s theory, initially humans had to develop the essential brain architecture to imagine things and beings that don’t exist physically, and the possibility that people somehow survive on after their death. A Simple Binding:

This is a simple binding spell. Binding in this term is a spell that is meant to limit the magical ability of another practitioner. There are three ways to go about binding someone. You can internalize their magick within themselves so they can’t effect the world outside (this is the most simplest form, and it has the added advantage that the practitioner may not notice it). You can largely restrict the amount of energy they are allowed to produce and tap into thus rendering them unable to utilize magick (this renders the magician even more powerless but they’ll notice the spell right away, and it is rather difficult to pull of). Or you can completely bind them so they have no higher connection, no access to magical ability, and no way to cast any kind of spell (this is a complete binding and by far the most powerful and effective, although it generally requires quite a bit of work). This type of binding is the first kind. This is a very good and effective binding because, despite being very simple to undo, it’s very strong and very deceptive in its nature, often times tricking the victim into fruitlessly expelling time and energy. To cast the binding we draw the crossed symbol and place it upon the victim. It’s enough to draw the sigil in the air with our finger and then move it on top of the victim. The entire sigil is blessed by Saturn, who is a god of boundaries and rules and order, but Saturn’s power is only put at the point where the two lines cross.

This is a heads up that my friend Tom has been working on channeling and transcribing a series of 84 sigils (28 sigils of the Ether, 28 of the Abyss, and 28 of Earth), these are not only beautiful, but full of symbolic meaning (some of it which is hidden and has never been published) and they’re all very powerful. Right now Tom is printing them for everyone to see and hopes to eventually publish them with some sort of scheme that will allow others to use and expand upon the work in their own publications. He’s also working on commentary for all the sigils which will incorporate his own work and experiences with them.

Somehow they are able to identify one another, and the tiny bits of genetic material tend to congregate with similar DNA. The recognition of similar sequences in DNA’s chemical subunits, occurs in a way unrecognized by science. There is no known reason why the DNA is able to combine the way it does, and from a current theoretical standpoint this feat should be chemically impossible

Magic is life, Crowley, to paraphrase, defines magic as any willed act – and he included the example of the blowing of one’s nose as a magical act.

So with that thought in mind -any technique that helps you towards your goal is a magical act.

So what I’m presenting and doing here, is forwarding what could be a very familiar idea and providing an example.

The idea is that to accomplish anything in life, you need to set goals. Write them down. This is pretty familiar stuff, yes? Sigil magic may seem a form of this even. But, as some of you may know already, doing this alone rarely if ever delivers the goal you have in mind.

Why doesn’t making goals and writing your goals down work?

Well, of course, writing it out so plainly, the answer is plain as well: writing down a goal is not the same thing as working towards a goal. I have in my wallet a piece of paper on which is written a fabulous financial goal, for example – on the suggestion of one or more self help gurus – it’s been there for over a year and the money is not mine.

La Magie n’est pas une religion dans le sens où la plupart des gens comprennent ce mot. La religion, dans le sens commun du terme, est même le contraire de la magie. L’une limite, l’autre libère. L’une exige des acrobaties intellectuelles pour adopter des croyances loufoques, l’autre consiste à adopter volontairement des croyances loufoques pour satisfaire ses buts. Ensuite, elle les élimine. La religion aspire à un seul mode de vie pour tout le monde, en tout temps et en tous lieux. A contrario, la Magie exige de la personnalité et de souplesse mentale.

Le magicien s’extrait de lui-même du monde « réel » pour se précipiter dans des situations bizarres préalablement planifiées. Il s’agit pour lui d’un théâtre des opérations ayant pour fonction d’affiner sa perception du monde et de ses différents rôles à l’intérieur de ce monde.

The human brain possesses plenty of functions but little is known about its scientific relationship with mind and spirit. Conferencesfocused on the connection between science and religion were held very recently in which neuroscientists, Buddhist scholars and Dalai Lama discussed attention, mental imagery, emotion, mind, brain functions and meditation, suggesting religious meditation offers an effective means to investigate the mystery of mind and spirit. In the past decade, scientists struggled to obtain brain mappings for various meditation styles using different brain imaging techniques and stimulating results have been observed. In this letter we report that, together with other brain regions, pineal body exhibit significant activation during meditation process, supporting the long lasting speculation that pineal plays an important role in the intrinsic awareness which might concern spirit or soul. Pineal is known as an endocrine organ which produces substrates including melatonin and has been ascribed numerous even mysterious functions but its activation during meditation has never been observed by brain imaging technique. In seventeenth century, based on anatomic observation, Descartes ventured to suggest that pineal serves as the principal seat of the soul. Inspired by its geometric center in the brain, physiologists, psychologists, philosophers and religionists have been speculating for centuries about pineal’s function relevant to spirit and soul. In this study, we chose Chinese Original Quiet Sitting, one style of meditation, to explore this long lasting speculation by functional magnetic resonance imaging technique. Our results demonstrate a correlation between pineal activation and religious meditation which might have profound implications in physiological understanding of the intrinsic awareness.

Hoodoo is African American folk magic. That makes for a very unique tradition, African traditions blended with European immigrant traditions as Hoodoo Root workers read new materials and learned from different people and added to their practice those ideas and techniques they found effective.

Austin Osman Spare is not an influence on traditional Hoodoo. As a recipient of traditional Witch training and interviewed by Gerald Gardner as he sought to reclaim the Old Traditions, he may lay claim to influencing Wicca. Peter Carrol mined the writing of Austin Osman Spare, added to it his own and other ideas and branded the result ‘Chaos Magic’.

With the Doctrine of Signatures (the spiritual power of a thing is suggested in its form), it is possible to improvise within the Hoodoo tradition. Newly minted currency, such as the Sacajawea dollar coin, can be used in such a way the imagery suggests to the magician. Though more traditional items are locked into traditional associations.

A rare insight into the folk beliefs of 17th-century Britons has been gleaned from the analysis of a sealed “witch bottle” unearthed in Greenwich, London, in 2004.

Witch bottles were commonly buried to ward off spells during the late 16th and 17th centuries, but it is very rare to find one still sealed.

“So many have been dug up and their contents washed away down the sink,” says Alan Massey, a retired chemist formerly at the University of Loughborough, UK, who has examined so-called “magical” artifacts and was asked to analyse the contents of the bottle. “This is the first one that has been opened scientifically.”

During the 17th century, British people often blamed witches for any ill health or misfortune they suffered, says Massey. “The idea of the witch bottle was to throw the spell back on the witch,” he says. “The urine and the bulb of the bottle represented the waterworks of the witch, and the theory was that the nails and the bent pins would aggravate the witch when she passed water and torment her so badly that she would take the spell back off you.”
